Don’t break the chain: the chain method on a grid

Last updated:

The chain method is quickly explained. Every day you do something for your habit and mark the day. The marks turn into a chain, and you have exactly one job: not to let it break.

The chain is the grid

In Habit Tracker Grid the chain is the grid itself. Every day you tick off lights up, and days you made sit side by side. Skip a day and the gap stays visible. The app says it itself when you first open it: “Do not break the chain.”

How to put the method to work

  1. Add a habit with the plus on the “Habits” tab.
  2. On every day you made it, tap that day’s cell. If the habit has a goal with a step size, each tap counts up by the step until the day’s goal is reached.
  3. Let the chain grow. How long it is, you see on the grid.

Milestones

When a chain reaches 7, 14, 21, 30, 60, 90, 100, 150, 200, 365, 500 or 1000 days, the app lets you know with a notification that includes the number, without Premium too. For that you need to allow notifications for the app. Your current and your best streak as numbers sit in the advanced statistics, and those come with Premium. More in Where do I see my streak?

Not every habit has to be daily

Some habits are not meant to happen every day. For them there is the weekly goal: you decide how many days a week are enough, and the grid marks the weeks you made and the ones you missed. More in Habits that aren’t daily.

What works without Premium

2 habits are free, with no account and no ads. The grid, the milestone notifications and the weekly goal are included. What Premium costs is on the pricing page.
